CONGREGATION MEETINGS

Elder Alexander/Crouch - Uniondale 1 - May 7, 1995 - "PREACH THE RESTORATION WITH BOLDNESS - We had an awesome experience last night. Last Monday night as we rode our bikes to look up a referral, we rode past a Church and the spirit told us "to go in." The door to the "Apostolic Church of God" was opened and the children's choir was practicing. A woman in the congregation came and spoke to us, notifying us of a Bible Study class the following evening, which we went to. When we arrived the Deacon gave us a tour of the Church. Next the study group began and testimonies were borne along with hands clapping, tambourines tapping and people shouting. The Pastor then invited us to bear testimony. Elder Crouch stood up and taught the entire 1st Discussion. The spirit moved him. They then asked me to stand and I bore fervent testimony of Jesus Christ and the Restoration. The "Amens" and "Hallelujahs" stopped as the spirit bore witness. I felt the Lord guiding each of us. What power there is in the true spirit of the Lord. We gave the Pastor a copy of the BofM and he extended the invitation to return again. It is true, if we are to bring "thousands" of conversions, we must preach in large numbers and the spirit will guide."

Elder Nieffenegger/Campbell (ZLs) - Staten Island Rockland - May 7, 1995 - "LARGE GROUP DISCUSSIONS - Six members of our Zone went into a Pentecostal Church last night and taught a 1st Discussion. I wish you could have felt the spirit on the Joseph Smith and BofM principles. It was silent. No "Amens" or "praises", just love and peace. We were invited back and the Pastor encouraged everyone to call us. We handed everyone a Christ in America Articles of Faith card and said to call for a BofM. Large group discussions is where the Spirit bears witness. I love this work, it is divine and we can baptize "thousands" this way. We also had a "Street Meeting" on the Ferry. Look for more "Street Baptisms."

Elder Campbell/Nieffenegger (ZLs) - Staten Island Rockland - May 7, 1995 - "WE WERE CALLED ANGELS, THE SONS OF THE PROPHETS! - We had the opportunity with Elders Peterson, Davis, Davidson & Platis) to preach in another church. We're striving to bring in congregations and make a Mission District just on Staten Island. After a musical number by me on their electric guitar, we shared the message of the restored gospel. The spirit was so strong when Elder Peterson shared the Joseph Smith experience. Elder Nieffenegger shared the Book of Mormon and Elder Platis shared the promise and his testimony. I was able to share the song I wrote about Joseph Smith, "No Man Has Done More." They loved it all, President. No objections whatsoever. We passed out cards with our names and phone numbers. The Pastor said, "Be sure to call these young men, Angels! The sons of the Prophets! Their message is important!" What a great experience! We plan on Street Meetings and Church Meetings every week if not more. I love this work. The gospel is true and must be shared."

Sister Alsop/Bell - Jamaica 1 Eng - May 1, 1995 - "THE SPIRIT ALWAYS ACCOMPANIES US, EVEN IN OTHER’S CONGREGATIONS - On Thursday, our district went to a Pentecostal church and taught the congregation, the 1st Discussion. They didn't know what hit them. The spirit was so strong. I never would have believed I would be doing something like that. In fact I thought the idea was strange. It was however the best experience I have ever had. Wow!"

Elder Aaron Smith/McPhie - Jamaica 1 Eng - Apr 27, 1995 - "PENTECOSTALS HUMBLED BY SPIRIT IN OWN MEETING - Sisters Bell and Alsop are teaching a man who attends a Pentecostal church. He invited then to go to a worship service. The Elders asked if they could go too. Elders Smith, McPhie, Cocco and Draney accompanied them. The meeting began with the usual "Praise to the Lord" etc. After some singing they opened it up for testimonies. Elder McPhie stood up in the congregation, began to bear testimony and teach the first three principles of the 1st Discussion about the Godhead. Many of the people nodded in agreement. He closed and then Elder Smith stood up. He began to teach the Joseph Smith principle. About halfway through he was interrupted and asked by the Pastor, a woman, to come to the podium where he continued to teach showing them a picture of the Father and Son with Joseph Smith. Again they nodded approval. Then he began to teach the BofM principle showing it to everyone there. He bore testimony and then closed.

Next, Elders Cocco and Draney then Sisters Bell and Alsop stood and bore testimonies one by one. They shared the sweetest testimonies, ones that you hold all through life. After that, the Pastor invited us to sing a hymn. Elder Cocco suggested from their own Hymn Book "Sweet Hour of Prayer." The missionaries all sang that hymn reverently, the way it should be. The members of the congregation felt the spirit stronger then, than ever in their lives. They liked it so much they sang it again on their own at the same tempo as we had sung. From that point on, the rest of the meeting was different. The evening went from shouting and loud singing to solemn testimonies with peaceful, comfortable feelings. About 20 names and addresses were obtained, with 5 copies of the BofM distributed (that was all we had), and they were all introduced to the deeper message of the restoration."

Elder Devereaux/Isakson- Bushwick 11 (Sp) - Apr 3, 1995 - "BOLDLY TEACH THE DISCUSSIONS - After the strong sessions of General Conference last Sunday, Elder Savage (ZL) and I were walking home and we felt impressed to walk inside a Pentecostal Church. We listened for a while, then we were invited to speak. I shared the 1st Charla, then Elder Savage taught the 2nd. The spirit helped us so much. My Spanish was so clear. I was truly blessed. If we are going to baptize thousands, we need to "find" in large quantities. There is no better way than through "street meetings" and "congregations" whether in churches or halls. We can do it, now we must demonstrate to the Lord that we are prepared to!"

Elder Marchant/Curtis - ZL - Richmond Hill 11 Sp - Sep 9, 1994 - "PREACHING IN A CONGREGATION - THE FIRST ONE - This week I had one of the best experiences of my mission. My companion and I decided to go into this church. Everyone was jumping up and down and rolling on the floor. It was a circus, but one guy invited us in and sit down on the front row. When they were done, making fools of themselves, they invited people to stand and share their testimonies. After a few people stood and sat down, Elder Curtis stood up said a few words and also sat down. They liked us being there, but we didn't feel good about what we had said. We had to be more bold. Elder Curtis then got up again and tells them a story about a young boy named Joseph Smith. He testified of him being a prophet of God, he testified as to the truths in the Book of Mormon and the truthfulness of the church. The spirit came in so strong even in that location, and everyone for once were absolutely silent. The spirit testified to over 100 people that night and I was glad for the opportunity to feel the spirit testify anywhere."
